01/29/06  -  QUOTES: Hertha BSC Berlin vs Hannover 96
Peter NeururerPeter Neururer (Coach Hannover 96, picture):
"I am satisfied with the attitude of my players. We have shown a great defensive performance with a lot of passion. We couldn't do more from the quality of our play because the dismissal of Altin Lala. The yellow-red card for me is incomprehensible. It was a fair battle between Lala and Kovac. Although we wanted to gain more, we can live with that point. The equaliser from Berlin due to the second half is deserved."

Falko Goetz (Coach Hertha BSC):
"It wasn't a good game, even we increased the pressure. But our play was too complicated. Only when we played direct passes we had our opportunities. My team never gave up and were rewarded at the end. I think we had a moral victory tonight."

Christoph Dabrowski (96-scorer 0-1):
"The equaliser is really annoying. Now we have to win the following two home matches."

Dick van Burik (Hertha-scorer 1-1):
"I had the feeling that I can do something today. And that finally happened."

01/28/06  -  Hertha snatch last minute equaliser
Christoph Dabrowski's goal in the 12th minute of play looked to have scured victory at the Olympia stadion - until Dick van Burik snatched a last-minute equaliser (92nd) as Hannover 96 drew 1-1 with Hertha BSC Berlin (0-1). The Reds went one man down in the 45th when Albanian Altin Lala received his second yellow card and dismissal from the game (picture).

Per Mertesacker missed out through injury, so Brazilian Vinicius partnered Dariusz Zuraw in the centre of defence. 96-head coach Peter Neururer employed a similar 4-3-3 system to accommodate his usual trio of strikers with Lala, Balitsch and Dabrowski filling the midfield. Hertha-coach Falko Goetz had to replace central defender Josip Simunic with German international Arne Friedrich. Oliver Schroeder moved on the right-back position.

Just after six minutes of action US defender Steven Cherundolo collided with Gilberto. Cherundolo were given medical treatment and was back on the field after a few minutes while Gilberto (suffering concussion) had to be substituded for Boateng.

The Reds were the most dangerous team from the beginning with the three strikers Brdaric, Hashemian and Stajner changing their positions upfront constantly.

In the 12th minute Michael Tarnat swung over a free-kick from the right which Vinicius delivered from 16metres to the far post were Dabrowski was waiting. The defensive midfielder were sneaking behind van Burik and stroked the ball into the bottom left hand corner to make it 1-0. It was his third goal this season.

Just eight minutes later "Dabro" had his second scoring-chance. Brdaric sent in a cross from the right flank when "Dabro" unfortunately failed from 10metres at Berlin's goalkeeper Fiedler (20th).

In the following 20 minutes 96 controlled the match throughout while Berlin couldn`t create any scoring opportunities.

Right before the whistle The Reds found themselves down to 10 men, when captain Altin Lala picked up his second yellow card. After a harmless battle between Lala and his opponent, Berlin were rewarded with a free-kick. Lala was upset about the referee's decision and kicked the ball away, that he had to leave the field for that unsporting behaviour (45th).

Halftime 0-1.

Neururer had to react and strenghtened the midfiled with Bulgarian Chavdar Yankov playing for Chzech Jiri Stajner. The hosts took the initiative as they went in search of the equaliser.

After a right cross from Marcelinho van Burik jumped higher than Hanno Balitsch and headed over the bar (50th). Hertha-coach Falko Goetz changed his formation from a four-man to a three-man defence and brought Neuendorf and Okoronkwo in order to put more danger upfront. Berlin dominated the second half without creating any chances.

In the 73rd minute Tarnat cleared a chance by Cairo, and a shot from Friedrich went into the second floor minutes later (77th). Berlin's best chance came through Pantelic who couldn't control the ball from four metres (83rd).

Substitute Michael Delura had the only scene for 96 in the second half, when he shot after a counter attack from a tight angle into Fiedler's arms (84th).

Unfortunately for The Reds the equaliser fell in extra time. Turkish international Bastuerk deliverd a pass to Cairo on the right who sent a cross inside the box. Dick van Burik, who hasn't scored in years, headed home for the hosts leaving Enke no chance (92nd).

Final result 1-1.

Hannover controlled the match until the dismissal of captain Altin Lala. 96 fought bravely but were too passive moving forward that the share of spoils is a deserved result for both teams. Hannover 96 is in the Bundesliga still unbeaten under their coach Peter Neururer.
