Per
Mertesacker makes Hannover proud! The 96- and Germany central defender
has shown a great play during the nerve-racking FIFA World Cup quater-final
against Argentinia, when Germany have beaten "The Gauchos" 4:2
in the penalty shootout (1:1; 1:1; 0:0). The whole 120 minutes Per was
concentrated and he had a great opportunity whith a shot over the bar
after 18 minutes. After the match "Merte" has been kicked by Argentine substitute Leandro Cufre who received the red card for that unsporting behaviour. Argentina went ahead in the 49th through Ayala while the World cup top scorer Miroslav Klose equalised in the 80th minute of play. The matchwinner was Jens Lehmann who proved the hosts' hero during the penalty shootout, saving from both Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso, while Oliver Neuville, Michael Ballack, Lukas Podolski and Tim Borowski all successfully dispatched their spot kicks past Argentinas substitute goalkeeper, Leo Franco. Next Tuesday, 4 Juli 2006, Germany feace Italy in the half-final. "This match in Dortmund sure will be a highlight that we wanted to achive. I can't imagine, that we can loose this match", so Per. |
